Gamers and computer enthusiasts all over the world are known for their gaming rigs. Within them is some of the best hardware available on the market, pumping information out faster than your average computer to large monitors and through a quality sound system. This is only half of what makes their computers special as we turn our attention to the computer case. There are dozens of different ways you can make your computer case stand out, from a full overhaul of the design to minor modifications. Ultimately, it's down to personal tastes, as what might look cool to you might look rubbish to another person of different tastes. Here are some tips on making cool computer cases.
Light Modifications
Computer cases are typically easy to take apart and swap out, though finding the correct pieces to replace them can be a little harder. One example of an easy change is putting in a 'window', which is effectively a transparent, plastic side panel, allowing anyone to see inside the computer. On the whole, it might still be pretty dark or boring, so to spice things up, you could put in some lighting systems. There are fans and liquid cooling systems that come with such lighting, but for the best effect, you could place your own lights. LEDs can fit anywhere in the case and can connect to spare connectors, such as the 4-pin molex variety. The right combination can lead to a beautiful light show.
Another option for modifying your computer is implementing LEDs. Whether you purchase a fan with one inbuilt, your liquid cooling system has them included or if you just want to place LEDs around the inside of the case, it can cause beautiful effects. In combination with the window panel, you can create a miniature light show every time your computer is running.
Medium Modifications
Whether done with the previous modifications or done separately, this is a good option for the more artistic enthusiasts out there. Utilizing spray paint, you can color your case in however you wish or use stencils to create your own designs. This is best done without any of the components present or by removing the parts and placing them on paper or outside to prevent damage. Ultimately, this can be cheaper than the previous enhancements, but it depends on the complexity of your design.
Heavy Enhancements
This is for the engineers, sculptors and artists out there. Utilizing body filler, it's possible to create customized shapes for your computer to reside it. While there are some rules of thumb, such as where to house the components and ensuring it provides cooling solutions, it can have some tremendous results. There have been computer cases in the shapes of robots, aircraft, household appliances, fishtanks and many more. However, this can lead to very high expenses, so a budget and plans should be made beforehand to ensure the best results.
Smaller, though no less serious, modifications including modifying the components themselves. For example, it's possible to add a window a hard drive to see inside. This is unrecommended though, as they're very sensitive and could easily break under such conditions. It's possible to purchase some hard drives with a window already installed.
